For this project - I sought to explore character and clothing designs inspired by the Islamic world. I was studying Sufism and the travels of the great traveller Ibn Battuta at the time, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually what pushed me to try this. I drew references from Islamic art and architecture, Ottoman era medieval armour and Orientalist paintings by artists like Jean-Leon Gerome. The Pilgrims are an unlikely band of characters - it is hard to call all of them heroes - who find themselves stuck together for the purpose of a singular holy mission. Their backgrounds and personalities inspire their costumes, postures and weapons. The odd one out, Minosha, hails from a much colder land, much farther up north and her design is meant to be culturally distinct from the rest of the group.
